This Phrase “Don’t Judge Me…”

At times, “don’t judge me” means “let me sin in peace.” Brothers and sisters, when on the authority of God’s Word, our sinful actions or behaviours are pointed out, we should be gratetul and repentant. Pointing out and judging are not synomymous. Yet, we have a tendency to ride on the “you are judging me now” to justify our actions and gaslight others. The most important matter we should focus on is “is the correction based on Scriptures?” All Scripture “is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16). Additionaly, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”. Those who would correct others should “speak the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15).
Correcting others is a mutual responsibility. Prov. 27:5 says” An open rebuke is better than hidden love!” Galatians 2:11-21 records an instant when Paul rebuked Peter because of his actions. Peter never said “you are judging me now” or “you think you’re perfect” card. In 2 Samuel 12, Nathan rebuked King David because of adultery and murder. In 1 Kings 18, Elijah rebuked Ahab because of idolatry.
Brothers and sisters, let us not be wary of correction. To those who have to correct, we must “first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye” (Matt. 7:5).

Let us not be hypocritical. We should continually have moments of introspection. It does not mean being perfect. Rather, it means taking up our crosses daily and following Jesus. Romans 12:9-10 says, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

Reflection: 1. Am I vulnerable enough to allow fellow believers to correct me?

2. Am I loving enough to correct others in love?

May God helps us all. Amen.
